Editorial and Medical Review Policy
Why we publish this
You may be making a decision about a permanent implant in your joint partly on the basis of what you read online. You are entitled to know who wrote it, who checked it, and who paid for it.
Who writes and who reviews
Clinical content is drafted by our clinical team and reviewed before publication by a physician licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Every clinical page names its reviewer and carries a last-reviewed date.
Our reviewing physician is Dr. Joseph Menna, MD, FRCSC, Orthopaedic Surgeon. See Our Physicians.
What we cite
In order of preference:
- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses
- Randomised controlled trials in peer-reviewed journals
- Clinical practice guidelines from recognised bodies
- Health Canada authorisations, device labelling, and instructions for use
- Prospective observational studies and registry data
We link to the primary source wherever one is publicly accessible.
How we handle numbers
Every statistic on this site carries its source, the study design, and the sample size. We do not repeat a percentage we cannot trace to a study.
Where we cite a figure, we state what kind of evidence it is. A result from an open-label observational series is not the same as a result from a blinded randomised trial, and we will not present them as though they were.
Where the evidence is limited, short in duration, industry-funded, or contested, we say so on the page.
What we do not publish
- Patient testimonials. Ontario’s regulations prohibit physicians from using testimonials in advertising. We apply that standard to all content on this site.
- Comparative claims about other clinics or physicians.
- Superlatives such as “best”, “leading”, or “most advanced”.
- Guarantees of outcome. No treatment described on this site is guaranteed to work.
- Before-and-after imagery used to imply typical results.
Balance
Pages describing a treatment also describe its risks, its contraindications, the alternatives, and the option of not treating. A page that only lists benefits is not education.
Review cycle
Clinical pages are reviewed at least every 12 months, and sooner where new evidence, a regulatory change, or a safety signal warrants it. Reviews are logged.
Corrections
If you find an error, email hello@teampushpounds.com.
Substantive corrections to clinical content are made promptly and noted on the page with the date and the nature of the change. We do not silently edit clinical claims.
Commercial relationships and conflicts
- This site is owned and funded by Push Pounds Sports Medicine. Arthrosamid® is a private-pay procedure and we are paid to perform it. That is a commercial interest, and you should weigh it.
- We accept no advertising and no sponsored content.
- Arthrosamid® is manufactured by Contura Orthopedics Ltd. We are a treating clinic and purchase the product; we are not the manufacturer or distributor.
- Dr. Joseph Menna, MD, FRCSC is an orthopaedic surgeon who performs both hydrogel injection and joint replacement surgery. Because Arthrosamid® is sometimes considered by patients as an alternative to joint replacement, or as a way of deferring it, he has a financial interest in both sides of that decision. We disclose this so that you can weigh our advice accordingly.
